
Getting Your Heat Right on Husky HyPET Lines
If you’re running high-speed PET production on Husky HyPET lines, you know the struggle with “cold spots.” It’s a pain. When the heat doesn’t soak deep enough into the preform wall, you end up with uneven thickness or that annoying pearlescent look in your finished bottles. We built our infrared lamps to fix exactly that.
It’s about penetration, not just power
Here’s the thing: just cranking up the wattage doesn’t work. If you just blast the surface, you’re not actually heating the plastic. To get the heat into the core of a thick-walled preform, we play around with the short-wave and medium-wave infrared spectrum. We tweak the filament and the halogen gas pressure so the energy actually matches how PET absorbs heat. Instead of just scorching the outside, the energy sinks in. It actually soaks into the material.
Built for the grind
These are drop-in replacements. No fuss. We use high-purity quartz glass because nobody wants their lamps clouding up halfway through a run. And since these machines vibrate like crazy at high speeds, we used connectors that actually stay put. They won’t wiggle loose when things get fast. Now, we usually go with high-wattage setups to keep your throughput where it needs to be. But there’s a catch. When you run these lamps at full tilt, your oven’s ventilation takes a beating. If your cooling fans aren’t up to the task, the ambient heat will eat your lamps alive. Keep them cool, and they’ll last.
Making it work in the real world
You can swap these in without having to mess with your oven reflectors. We kept the footprint exactly the same. But a word of advice:**alignment is everything.**If a lamp is off by just a few millimeters, you’re going to see streaks in your bottles. It’s that sensitive. Also, do yourself a favor and check the contact points every 2,000 hours. It takes two minutes, but it stops those nasty arc-burns from ruining your terminals.
