
Why we stopped making “disposable” patio heaters
Most outdoor heaters are basically sealed boxes. That’s fine until five years of salt air or humidity finally kills the heating tube. Then you’re stuck. You either toss the whole expensive chassis in the trash or spend a miserable afternoon fighting with rusted screws and stripped bolts. We got tired of that. So, we built our IP55 heaters differently. The “Plug-and-Play” approach We decided to go with a modular layout for the heating elements. Instead of soldering everything into the main board—which is a nightmare to undo—we use quick-connect terminals. If a tube goes out, you don’t have to play electrician. You just pop the grille, unplug the dead module, and slide in a fresh one. It turns a four-hour teardown into a ten-minute job. It’s fast. Really fast. Keeping the rain out without locking you out Usually, an IP55 rating (which keeps out dust and water jets) means the unit is sealed so tight that opening it feels like cracking a safe. We found a workaround. We isolated the heating chamber from the electronics box. This means you can get to the tubes without breaking the main weather seal that protects your power supply. You get the protection you need, but you can actually get inside the machine when you need to. The honest trade-off Now, full disclosure: using modular connectors adds a tiny bit of electrical resistance compared to a permanent solder joint. To fix that, we over-specced the plating on the contacts. It stops the pitting and overheating that usually happens at the junction. It works great, as long as you make sure those connectors are clicked in firmly. Just don’t leave them loose, or you’ll deal with arcing. Real world, real money If you’re running a business, you know that labor costs way more than parts. Having a technician dismantle an entire frame just to swap one tube is a liability. It’s a waste of time and money. By making these modular, your heaters stay on the ceiling and your guests stay warm. If you’re putting these on a high-traffic patio, your crew can handle the maintenance without needing a specialized toolkit or a degree in engineering.
