
Stop the Blinding Glare: How We Handle Bathroom Infrared Heaters
Nobody wants to step out of a warm shower and feel like they’re staring directly into a stadium floodlight. When we design infrared heaters for bathrooms, we’re fighting a bit of a battle. We need that intense heat to keep you warm in a drafty room, but we don’t want the light to be so harsh that it hurts your eyes—or worse, irritates a baby’s sensitive vision.
Taming the Light
The trick is all in the glass. Instead of using basic clear tubes, we use special quartz coatings. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the heater. These coatings act as a filter—they block out those blinding, high-energy light waves but let the actual heat (the infrared stuff) slide right through. The result? You get all the warmth you need, but the glow is softer and warmer. It feels like a cozy heater, not a high-intensity spotlight.
The Give and Take
Now, nothing is perfect. Every time we add a coating to the glass, it adds a tiny bit of resistance. Because of that, a filtered lamp might take a few seconds longer to hit top temperature than a raw quartz tube would. It’s a small trade-off, but one worth making for the sake of your eyesight. We also have to be really careful with how we build the housing so the glass doesn’t get the plastic mounts too hot.
Getting it Right on the Wall
When it comes to installing these, we usually stick them in wall mounts with built-in safety cut-offs. Since these lamps get incredibly hot, the shape of the reflector has to be spot on. We want the heat pushing down toward you, not baking your ceiling. One last tip: if your bathroom gets really steamy, double-check your seals. If moisture sneaks into the electrical terminals, the lamp will burn out way faster than it should. Keep it dry, and it’ll last.
