
Making Bathroom Heaters That Won’t Blind You
When we set out to build infrared bathroom heaters, we had one big worry: the glare. Nobody wants to step out of a shower and feel like they’re staring directly into a spotlight. It’s annoying for adults, but for babies with those sensitive little eyes? It’s a real problem. Most standard infrared lamps are just too bright. They hit you with a harsh, stabbing light that makes you squint. So, we changed the light, not just the brightness. Instead of just dimming a bulb, we messed with the actual chemistry of the quartz and added some internal coatings. This filters out the UV and the high-intensity light that hurts your eyes. The result is a “soft light.” You still get that deep, cozy heat that sinks into your skin, but your eyes don’t feel like they’re under attack. Getting the hardware right There’s a tricky balance here with the power. If we cram too many watts into a tiny quartz tube, the filament gets way too hot. When that happens, the light shifts back into that blinding blue range. To stop that, we spent a lot of time tweaking the length and thickness of the filament. We keep the temperature stable so the light stays gentle. And a quick tip on installation: watch your spacing. A tight reflector is great for pushing heat down, but it can get a bit too hot near the ceiling. Give the lamp face at least 20cm of breathing room from your ceiling to make sure you don’t accidentally scorch anything. The trade-off Here’s the honest truth: these soft-spectrum lamps aren’t as “instant” as the searing heaters you’d see in an industrial drying plant. But honestly? You don’t want an industrial furnace in your bathroom. Taking a tiny hit on raw speed is a fair trade for a heater that’s safe for the whole family and won’t burn out after a few months. It’s just a more relaxed way to stay warm.
